Nutritional therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. Food supplies the necessary life-giving nutrients to the body. Most diseases are either fuelled by, or are the result of, a poor and imbalanced diet. Eating the right kind of food is one of the most important factors in attaining and maintaining good health. To function optimally our body needs enough carbohydrates, protein, fats, vitamins, minerals, fibre and water. It also needs support to help detoxify the pesticides, heavy metals, trans fats, allergens, toxins, excess sugar and additives in our diet that undermine our energy, fertility and immunity. If our detoxification abilities become overwhelmed, this can cause skin rashes, weight gain, fatigue, digestive problems and impair our ability to fight disease. Therefore, we often need to redress the balance between what we want and what our body needs in order to function optimally.

With nutritional therapy each person is treated as an individual. An in-depth case history helps highlight any

hormonal, digestive and detoxification issues, blood sugar imbalances, as well as family tendencies and lifestyle factors that may contribute to health conditions.

You may be asked to keep a food diary over a few days noting all food, drinks, snacks and supplements taken. This allows us to assess protein, carbohydrate, fat, fibre and micronutrient intake and helps establish any food intolerances or allergies. A variety of biochemical and functional tests may be used to inform recommended protocols and programmes.
